           Types of Lung Cancer

There are following types of lung cancer:

  1. Small cell lung cancer
  2. Non-small cell lung cancer

Their method of growing and spreading in the body is different from each other. Due to this reason lung cancer spread in different way. The shapes of tumors of different types of the cancer are different.

  1. Small cell lung cancer

It is 10-15% of the lung cancer. It spreads in the body in a very fast manner. It diagnosis when it has spread to other parts of the body. It spreads rapidly and affects the parts of the body.

  1. Non-small cell lung cancer

This is another type of lung cancer. It is a cancer, which occurs in a large rate in people. Mostly 85% of cases of cancer of people suffer from this type of cancer. The following three types of the non-small cell lung cancer based upon the types of tumors:

  • Adenocarcinomas
  • Squamous cell carcinomas
  • Large cell carcinomas

  • Adenocarcinomas

It is a type of the non-small cell lung cancer. It is a type of cancer, which occurs mostly. It occurs almost in 40% cases of the cancer. It produces in the smokers. In some cases, it can diagnose in the people who do not smoke. It mostly occurs in the peripheral area of the lung and it can spreads to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body. It shows like pneumonia when X-ray done on such type of tumor. It has properties, which are like gland properties.

  • Squamous cell carcinomas

The percentage of this type of cancer to occur is 20-25% of the total cases. It starts from the bronchi area, which is central area of the chest. These are the cells, which are thin and flat. These cells are present in the passage of respiratory track. It can also spread other parts of the body such as lymph nodes.

  • Large cell carcinomas

It is a type of lung cancer, which occurs in a small number. 10%-15% cases consist of such type of cancer. This type of cancer can spread to lymph node and other sites of the body.

Other types of rare lung cancers

  • Bronchial carcinoids

This is of 5% of the total percentage of the lung cancer. It is a cancer, which occurs in a least proportion. It is present in the smokers of having age under 40 years. These types of tumors cause less ratio of death in people when these diagnosed in early stage of tumor.

  • Large cell neuroendocrine tumors

It occurs in 2% of the lung cancer cases. These types of tumors are fastest growing type, which produce the cancer in people.

This type of cancer produces in the lining of the organs, which can be fatal. This cancer can spread other parts of the body through the lining of the body parts such as chest, abdomen, heart etc.

  • Carcinoid tumors

Carcinoid tumors are type of the neuroendocrine tumors. These types of tumors start the cancer in the organs of the neuroendocrine. The neuoendocrine cells line the other parts of the body such as small intestine and these tumors affect them. On the other hand, it can also affect the lung and produces the lung cancer.
